I am a toy gearhead. I am a mom. Therefore, I am Gearhead Mom. I review the good, the bad and the (often) ugly in the world of baby and childhood gear.

About Gearhead Mom
As a mother of a very intense, curious five year-old, Sy, and a cah-razy two year old Little G, Gearhead Mom evolved from my own needs. After all, necessity is the mother of all invention, right?
When I started the site, I’d never been an illustrious mother before, so I had a lot of questions. And I mean a lot of questions. I spend a fair amount of time discussing products with my friends and reading (too many) books on parenting. I also seek answers to my myriad questions online. It’s fast, if you don’t fall down an internet rabbit hole like I usually do, and often an easy way from me to go from research to purchase in one fell swoop which is a bonus if I only have a small nap-induced window.
There are a plethora of sites out there that review really wonderful kid’s products; the majority of my favorites focus on modern, innovative design. I get a lot of inspiration from those sites and read them daily (some of my favorite rabbit holes!). But sometimes a girl just needs to know if she can build the “Little Tikes” BBQ Kitchen while junior sleeps. You know, the nitty gritty. The good, the bad and the ugly.
So with that in mind, I decided to review the basics while filling a creative outlet for myself as well. Gearhead Mom reviews the day-to-day particles of life with junior:
• Which bottle works best?
• Are Ikea sheets soft enough?
• Do you have all the gear from my groovy store of necessities for impending parents?
• Will I survive amongst the waves of often plastic, often design-challenged sea of toys that litter my home?
My best friend from 5th grade, Jenny M, contributes a review about once a week, so look for her pearls of wisdom as well. A mother of two girls, ages four and seven, she moonlights as a high school vice principal. Unfortunately, she can’t send her toddler to detention with the 9th and 11th graders. To alleviate stress, she blogs about it and reviews parenting and kid gear over here. Aside from Jenny and me, I have an assortment of brilliant mom-pals who chime in here and there. I’d be lost without them all. The great thing is, we all have different aged kids, so the reviews come from varying slices of the childhood pie.
Even though I have some affiliate links on my site, all of the reviews are all completely impartial and just our completely self-absorbed opinions. If you like what you read and want to buy something, go ahead and click on through! If someone makes a purchase, I get a small percentage on some of the products I discuss, but not all (mainly the bigger box stores like Amazon). Either way, I’ll still be here going on and on and on about the maelstrom of toys at my feet.
If you have a toy or other item you’d like to see reviewed, please ask! I’m always open to new challenges and inspiration. I hope this helps you wade through the mass of products out there.
All my best,
Missy W
