Breathable Bumper

Breathable Bumper

I’m making the (thankfully small) list of gear that we still need for the next babe. Ohdeedoh’s conversation about bumpers reminded me that I want to try out a mesh bumper like this one from Breathable Baby.

Has anyone used one before?

we did buy a “breathable” one after we lost the first one during the move to england , but i don’t think it made a difference , we never had a problem with ours. with this baby we will use the snugglenest for longer than we did with emily, & after that probably won’t use a bumper at all.

We tried one of these (from Breathable Baby) when our 3 month old started rolling and spinning all over the crib each night like a breakdancer.  We didn’t want to keep the thick bumper in there due to our unreasonably excessive fears brought on by reading too many baby books.  But we wanted at least some protection for her little noggin.
So we tested it ourselves by breathing very lightly through it, then weaved it into the crib, very simple velcro edges, no problem getting a completely tight stretch all around that baby can’t undo.
It’s not nearly as padded as a regular bumper but at least she’s not banging around on bare wood anymore and almost as important it helped keep her hands and arms inside the crib during all this flailing about.
She’s now 9 months and pulling up in the crib, the bumper slides down the rails if she puts any amount of pressure on it with hands or feet.  We’re less worried about her bonking her head now, but we’re keeping the bumper because it also provides a nice view block of all those great playthings and distractions that surround the crib.  It’s really lightweight material, we rolled it up and brought it on vacation recently.  Hope this helps.
