Fabulous Napkins = Fabkins
Posted by Missy W. @ 9:32 AM
I am just loving the mama power I’ve been reading about these days. It amazes me what people can accomplish in a day. I can barely brush my teeth, keep my kid out of traffic and write a review. Let’s just say that some days I chew gum after I have my coffee and call it even.
Ah, I digress. Reader Danielle just sent me a link to Fabkins, a cloth napkin line designed and sized just for kids. The napkins come in six different themes such as Garden Friends or Beach Bound. I find myself completely partial to the African Safari animals. Fabkins was started by two moms who wanted to send their kids to school with waste-free lunches while teaching them how to be environmentally aware (and proactive). What a stylish way to keep napkins out of the landfill and teach your kids how to live a greener lifestyle.
I read this quote on their site and it reminded me how easy it is to change even the small things in our lives to create a smaller footprint on the planet, “If we all give up one napkin a day, we could save a billion pounds of paper waste from going to landfills every year.” Elizabeth Rogers, co-author, The Green Book, the Everyday Guide to Saving the Planet One Simple Step at a Time. A billion pounds per year is staggering, isn’t it?
My sister is going to get some for her daughter to take to school. I’ll let her report back to us from the front lines of the cafeteria.

I’m psyched to see this and embarrassed to admit that I haven’t been sending ANY napkins (cloth OR paper) to preschool in my daughters’ lunches. But I guess I imagine the teachers hovering with wipes at the ready…
Speaking of African safari animals, though, we use cloth napkins at the breakfast/dinner table, and each family member has a different wooden animal napkin ring and (reused till washing becomes necessary) cloth napkin. M knows she’s the giraffe and C has the lion.
