Hazard Scale of Doom Database
Posted by Missy W. @ 8:27 AM
My friend Kate sent me this link to cosmeticsdatabase.com, a site maintained by the Environmental Working Group that rates the toxicity of makeup, hair care, nail care, baby care (including sunscreen) and whole lot more.
My favorite sunscreen by TruKid rated really well. Way to go TruKid! My favorite baby wipes ever, the unscented ones from Kirkland at Costco, rated a 5, moderate on their hazard scale. But then check out what they have to say about that 5!
Ingredients in this product are linked to:
Cancer
Developmental/reproductive toxicity
Violations, Restrictions & Warnings
Allergies/immunotoxicity
Other concerns for ingredients used in this product:
Neurotoxicity, Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive), Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs), Enhanced skin absorption, Contamination concerns, Occupational hazards
That’s nice.
It’s too bad we aren’t all made of money so we could all buy the Seventh Generation wipes that only pulled in a 1. Even though it got a 1, it is still linked to peachy things like cancer and developmental/reproductive toxicity.
The makeup category was quite sobering; a lot of the products rated a 10, which unlike Bo Derek, is not a good way to rate on this site.
So yeah, good luck sleeping well after checking out this site. And good luck procuring that second job you’ll need to buy all the products that rate well on the HAZARD SCALE OF DOOM.
Thanks for the tip, Kate! I’m just going to go clean out the makeup drawer during nap…
