Cushy Squishy Sofa Fun
Posted by Missy W. @ 12:52 PM
We are lucky enough to have a converted attic in our lumbering beast of an old house. It’s a lot of odd corners and sloped ceilings, but it’s a great spot for a playroom. Only problem is that the stairs are stupidly steep and not exactly forgiving. When we moved in, we were able to get exactly zero large pieces of furniture up the stairs. I really wanted the room to be a nice place to hang out, not just sit on the semi-shag carpet. I remembered seeing some lounge-y small scale stuff at PB teen that I hoped would work. Bingo! We’ve had a four piece cushy lounge collection sectional for almost three years and it still looks above average. Not bad for something that takes a daily beating from Sy and her marauding gang of junior thugs.
Why do we like it?
It’s awesome for steep, tight stairs for one thing. We have a four piece set and we just rolled ‘em on up one piece at a time. It’s easy enough for me to move that we rearrange it at least once a week. That’s not to say it is light weight. Nope. Not light weight. The steel and wood frame is heavy as hell for small parts of a sectional, but I can still lug and push ‘em around. The pieces are covered in luxurious polyester faux suede. Nothing but the faux for us. It’s amazing stuff, though. The first year or so I allowed milk up in the playroom and every time (often) some wee lass or lad spilled their milk, I never cried about it because it just sort of puddled up and waited for me to soak it up with a wet towel. There are a few stains on the top of one piece, but that’s because I didn’t notice the spill until a few days later. To be honest, I have never tried to realllllly clean it up. If I ever get around to it, I’ll update it on this review. Solid research, eh?
PB teen also sells storage and or raised bases to make the pieces taller. We don’t have them and I’m glad we don’t. Sy and her pals love jumping around from the sectional to the floor, to a tumbling mat, straight into each other, etc. When we rearrange them, it’s usually to create an obstacle course or fort. It’s fun to create new seating areas or imaginary boats, whatever the game calls for. Right now I have them set up as two boats with an ocean in the middle for the kids to jump over. They are also surprisingly comfortable for big people, too. I spend a lot of time in the corner piece feeding/holding/protecting Baby G while Sy and her pals jump around us. We have the lounge tray, but I haven’t had it out for the last year or so. It just covered up a huge landing spot and I was always afraid that someone would bonk their head on the corner of it. Plenty of house guests have shoved the pieces into a square to sleep, too (I promise we offer up at least an air mattress). The pieces have buttons on them which snag on clothes or small feet sometimes and we’ve almost pulled one off, but it’s a small complaint. If your hip teen was sitting on them, I doubt it would be a problem.
I definitely recommend this if you are looking for a casual seating arrangement for the youngsters/hipsters in your family. Because of the scale, it’s certainly not something I’d put in my living room. Although it’s probably nicer than the nine year old Ikea number currently parked there. I give it a 4.5. If it didn’t weigh as much as a small family, it’d get a solid 5.
Ooh. Lucky you, as I was looking at the PB teen site last night, I realized the sectionals are on sale through March 9th. Lucky buzzards. Too bad I already bought mine.
