High Five

Remember Highlights magazines? When I was a kid that magazine was the only reason I looked forward to going to the dentist, because I knew there’d be a whole pile of the two tone magazines for me to devour. I was a huge fan of the hidden pictures page. The magazine covers are a little fancier nowadays, but after 60 years, the content is still going strong.
Now Highlights has introduced a new magazine, High Five, published for readers ages two to six.
Here’s what my friend AJ has to say about the magazine:
It is the best gift ever, I’m giving it to every kid I know this year. My daughter is 3 1/2 and she got her first issue two weeks ago. We have since read it two to nine times a day. There are a couple of short stories, puzzles, a kid-recipe (this month was banana split with yogurt you put in the freezer the day before and berries), an activity (making a bird feeder out of a pine cone) and it is so much fun to read together. I can’t say enough about how I love that it is not TV, not a CD, not a game for the computer, just good old-fashioned reading.
You can say that again, sister! Sy loves to sit with me and “read” magazines, which really just means she takes the sticker page out of my Domino magazine and puts them all over the magazine, sofa and her mother. She’ll be thrilled to have a magazine made just for her.
