Kukunest Rules the Roost
Posted by Missy W. @ 9:14 AM
Sy’s grandmother gave her a completely joyful bedding set from kukunest for Christmas. I have been meaning to review it ever since. How is it almost April?
Kukunest was created by two moms who “believe that (a child’s) living environment should be a reflection of their boundless creativity.” You can say that again, sisters. I am totally enamored with their vibrant colors and playful patterns. Check out the Intergalactic pattern if your kiddo is a space buff, or perhaps bright lanterns with an Asian theme is more your speed.
I am also a huge fan of all things Oko-Tex, a textile certification standard developed in Europe during the 1990s.
Per kukunest’s site, “The goals of the Öko-tex standard are simple: ensure that 100 of the most common harmful chemicals either are not present in the fabric, or at ultra low levels that European scientists have determined to be negligible to human health. Chemicals tested for include: lead, mercury, pesticides, phthalates, flame retardants, plus many others. With Öko-Tex Standard 100, you have the comfort of knowing that 100% of the fabric in our bedding is certified free of major toxic chemicals. Many fine brands use Öko-Tex Standard 100 fabric, including: Hanna Andersson, Mimi the Sardine, Baby Bjorn, and Cuddledown.” (By the way, Hanna Andersson pajamas are the bomb. For real.)
OK, so here’s my review. I must admit, I love this stuff, so you are not going to see many complaints on this one.
1) The fabric is so ridiculously soft, I love lying down next to Sy in her bed and snuggling up under the covers. Way softer than any Ikea sheet set I’ve ever purchased. It’s 200 thread count cotton percale and made to Oko-Tex standards, as I mentioned before. I’m a total sucker for softy soft bedding, so I sit around and wish it were my bed.
2) We have the lantern pattern and the red background looks just as vibrant and cheery as when we got it in December. The directions say cold water but uh, I apparently never read that and have been washing it in warm and it’s still not faded. Kukunest’s dyes do not sit on the fabric, so they are more fade resistant. Sounds good to me.
3) The colors. Oh, these women have the BEST eye for color. They lanterns on our set contrast and complement each other simultaneously. Every time I’m in Sy’s room I start thinking about which color I’d want to use on a wall, they are just so gorgeous.
Snapshot:
So yeah. Um. No complaints. No suggestions to make it better. This stuff is great and you’ll feel good knowing that your kiddo is not inhaling anything toxic as they sweetly slumber.
Oh! I do have one suggestion. It would be great if they had crib bedding, too! I would have gone nuts in Sy’s room with that stuff if I’d had it originally. They just rolled out the toddler bedding, so perhaps there is some hope.
