Sy’s been sick as a dog lately, and therefore up a ton at night, so out the window go any clever titles for my posts. But I guess good ol’ Melissa and Doug don’t need any clever, witty titles, because for the most part, their toys rock and stand up for themselves “all by own” as my two year old would say.
The Fold and Go barn is currently in high rotation at our house. It’s a sturdy, wooden structure that opens up easily and has a handy handle for carting around from room to room. It’s not too heavy or bulky, which I love for clean up. It comes with seven plastic farm animals to reenact all the fun a farm can have.
The barn has two stories, which amuses me, because how many animals in a barn hang out on the second floor? Aside from the very large scaled rooster that comes with the set, I’m at a loss. But that does not stop Sy and her pals from allowing horses, cows and goats to congregate on precarious perches, rooftops and gated stalls alike.
I also really love the gates that open easily and the super cute sliding doors in the front of the barn. The design snob in me loves the form of the house when folded up, it looks so cute on her toy shelf.
Snapshot:
• Easy to use, sweet wooden toy.
• I worried that the toy would scratch our coffee table, so I put little felt furniture pads on the bottom, which enables even smoother opening and closing.
• Comes with nice selection of animals.
• Great gift to have set up under the tree on Christmas morning.
10/26/08 Update
Reader Sarah pointed out that the rooster is in fact a turkey. Uh. Can you tell that I grew up FAR AWAY from barn life? Thanks for the tip, Sarah!
Also, at 3+, Sy is still enjoying this toy. The other day she had all her dinosaurs in the barn and told me they were “all watching TV.” That’s nice.
