My Favorite Baby Product of the Year
Posted by Missy W. @ 8:42 AM
Here it is. My favorite baby gear product: the Miracle Blanket. It’s not exactly exciting but, boy howdy, has it paved the way for some seriously good sleep sessions. When the Rookie Moms reviewed the Miracle Blanket back in April, I immediately got two of them for Baby G. While the Miracle Blanket was not new to the market in 2008, it was new to me. Oh how I wish I had this blanket with Sy as well.
You never know what kind of kid you are going to get, whether they will even want to be swaddled, but I went for it anyway. Four and a half months later, I still use these blankets every day to wrap Baby G up like a Baby Burrito.
Baby G truly excels at flailing his arms about and smacking himself in the forehead. If he’s not too busy giving himself goose-eggs, he’s attempting to shove both hands in his mouth simultaneously (poor kid is cutting his two bottom teeth already). All this activity makes it really hard for him to fall asleep if he isn’t swaddled. I keep thinking he’s ready to just use a sleep sack, but not yet; he just can’t get settled. So I pull out the Miracle Blanket, tuck in his arms into the magic arm flaps and he’s asleep in my arms in about three minutes. Yes, I still rock him to sleep. I can’t help myself, he’s my last baby.
My only addition to Whitney and Heather’s review is that I wish the blankets came in different sizes. Baby G is not incredibly tall, but he can bust his feet out of this lickety split if he is kicking enough; the bottom half is a bit too short for him and has been since he was about two months old. He still likes to sleep all scrunched up, so it’s usually not a problem. Sometimes we just wrap the top half of him up in it and call it a day. We have the light green with beige trim as well as the baby blue one, and the baby blue one is a good inch longer. I think it’s probably just a quality control issue, but now that he’s bigger, we just use the blue one all the time. It’s getting gross and it’s got holes in it from getting caught on the gum in the dryer (Yes, yes, it’s STILL there. Housecleaning doth not hold the number one slot on my resume.). Doesn’t matter to me, I’ll use this thing til it self-destructs or until G lets me know his swaddling days are over.
So if you are about to have a baby, get this. If you just got home from the hospital and you have a flopping fish for a baby, this is your product. And definitely a miracle.

I loved ours until I hated it. At 9 1/2 months, my not so little baby still needed to be wrapped tighter than the tightest burrito in this. He could not sleep without it, but the blanket was too small. Argh. Add to that the fact that we wasn’t rolling over at all (not a dreaded developmental delay! NO!) and my love for this blanket turned to pure loathe. We finally went cold turkey and N finally learned to sleep like everyone else AND roll over.
If I had to do it again, I’d still use this love/hate miracle blankie, but would wean off of it much earlier.
