Our Favorite Potty
Posted by Missy W. @ 12:30 PM
Between all the houses Sy plays in and pees in, we’ve tried out about six little training type potties. We have two potty seats that fit over the big toilet (to be reviewed tomorrow) and two stand alone potties, both made by Baby Bjorn. One I like, the other one, not so much.
I do not like the Baby Bjorn Little Potty, I do not like it, Sam I am. It seems way too small for a kiddo to sit comfortably on. The kids always look all hunched and scrunched up, and their bottoms never look like they fit on the seat. Lots of time pee comes spraying out the front when one of the boys in our crew sits on it. If you potty train your little one at say, nine months, it’d probably fit them just fine. Maybe it’d be good on the road in emergencies, but I find this one to be messy, too small, and not worth the ten bucks. Clearly, I bought this one first. I keep it around for days when we have lots of kids playing here, but otherwise, it’s been banished to the bathroom closet.
The Baby Bjorn Potty Chair, however, is a much better mousetrap.
Coming in at $24.95, it better be! It seems way more comfortable in that Sy will watch an entire segment of Maisy while sitting on her little green and white throne. It has a nice high back to it that she likes to lean against. It comes in two pieces, the main mold for the seat and the little receptacle of all things that might be coming out of your child’s bottom. I like that you can easily remove this little chamber and dump its contents in one swift move, with nothing to unlatch, you just pull it out. Sy likes to carry it to the big potty and dump it in for me (I’d say her aim has about an 80% success rate. ahem). Very exciting to get to flush, you know. It’s really easy to clean, no weird little hidden areas that can house germs. It’s lightweight, even Sy can move it from room to room if she wants to. It also has a nice enough design that I’m not completely horrified if a neighborhood friend comes by and I have it smack dab in the middle of the living room (uh, often).
Here’s a tip that I learned from my friend who has two kids, both potty trained: if you know your kid is going to poop, put some toilet paper down first, it makes the clean up much easier!
Isn’t parenting so glamorous?? I better go put my heels on and full make-up so I can clean the kitchen.
Snapshot:
• There’s lots of potties on the market, so ask your friends which ones they prefer for their kids. One with the least amount of pieces to clean means the least amount of places germs and other lovely specimens can hang out.
• The larger of the Baby Bjorn potties (Potty Chair - 5 smiles) works well for us, but not the smaller (Little Potty - 1 smile). Hence the three smile rating is an average. Who says I am sleep deprived, look, I did simple math!
• The Baby Bjorn Potty Chair is easy to clean up and easy to cart around from room to room during the height of potty training madness.
