Piddle Pad
Posted by Missy W. @ 1:40 PM
I’ll keep this short and sweet because this product is a total uni-tasker, but definitely one I’m glad I have. I meant to write about this when I was reviewing potties.
The Piddle Pad, made by the geniuses at Kiddopotamus, is a waterproof seat liner that is completely worth its modest price tag. The liquid absorbing, soft pad is a unobtrusive receptacle for pee, vomit, blowouts, you name it. The backside of the product is coated with vinyl to help keep the product in place and the liquid where it should be, not on your car. You just place it on the base of your child’s car seat (or stroller) and your days of washing the car seat cover are numbered. It doesn’t snap or slide into to anything, it just sits there, ready to catch whatever rain may fall.
Because it doesn’t snap in, it does get a little wiggly. When Sy climbs into her seat ALL BY MYSELF, sometimes it shifts under her as she is trying to get adjusted, so I have to lift her up and yank it around, thereby compromising some of its glorious protection. She usually stands up enough so I can get it in place, but it never looks as nice and flat as it does in the picture. It washes well and hangs dry. And it holds a LOT of pee. We haven’t had a vomit-a-thon while it is in place, so I’ll update when we do. It’s great for potty-training, too. We put Sy in a pull-up for long drives when we aren’t sure if we’d be able to stop in time, but for shorter, underwear clad drives, she likes knowing it’s there to catch the pee in case nature calls so strongly she can’t ignore it.
I wish I’d had this when Sy was smaller, when blowouts and throw-ups were a daily occurrence. Even though the infant car seats have easily removable covers (as opposed to the degree you need to take off a Britax cover), it would have been way nicer to just throw the little pad in the wash. Since I did not use this with Sy when she was a baby, I don’t know how much blowout it would actually catch. It says “above and below the diaper line,” and since infant bottoms are so small, I tend to believe them. Definitely a great shower present.
Snapshot:
• Soft terrycloth cover doesn’t bug your kid. Ours is black so it matches Sy’s car seat. Wouldn’t want to clash.
• It even has an upright harness shield to protect the crotch harness from all forms of grossness (of course, since I don’t read directions very often, I just learned how to put it in for maximum harness protection).
• Since it doesn’t snap in, it’s easy to move it from the car seat to the stroller if your child’s diaper is a blowout waiting to happen.
