Gearhead Mom

I am a toy gearhead. I am a mom. Therefore, I am Gearhead Mom. I review the good, the bad and the (often) ugly in the world of baby and childhood gear.

Here’s the most brilliant travel snack trap out there, the Snack Trap. An ingenious little snack cup with a flexible lid that junior can pick snacks out of without flinging them everywhere. It’s not perfect, the lid can be pulled off, the snacks can be shaken out, but it’s all about chaos management. It took Sy a little while to figure out how to extract the snacks, but once she got the hang of it, she was ultra-proud of herself.

You are not supposed to put the flexible lid in the dishwasher, so I always just hand was the whole thing. We seem to have lost all the lids so I’m glad to see the manufacturer sells them separately. The Snack Trap site also has hard plastic lids to keep the snacks fresh and extra lids for the cups along with an extensive line of the snack trap cups. The even sell tethers to keep the Snack Trap from falling off the stroller and rolling into the gutter. Uh yeah, been there, done that.

This is a great gift topper for shower presents. I give it four stars because the lids become tough to put on after a while and determined hands CAN rip them off. Flight attendants often thank me for bringing one!

4/28/08- I have emailed the company to ask if this product contains BPA. I will let you know what I find out!
I got a response the same day. Love that! Here’s what the company had to say:
“Thank you for your interest in our products, the safety of your family as well as all children is important to us. The cup is Polypropylene, and the lid is a Thermoplastic Elastomer.  Neither of these are polycarbonate, which are the source for the BPA’s that everyone is concerned about.  Also, there is no Latex in our products. There are no PVC’s, Phthalates, or Bisphenols in our products and that they have been independently safety tested in the US, Australia, United Kingdom, and Japan and all Snack-Trap products meet or exceed all standards for juvenile products.
Our new packaging (currently underway) does include this information.”

You can check out their FAQ page here.”

Thanks, Snack Trap! Good to know!

So funny to see this review today, after we packed TWO snacktraps for our two kids and our trip to Disneyland…full of Honeynut Cheerios.  Your four-year-old child (and your CAR!  And vacuum cleaner…) can still benefit from the Snack Trap!
