The Sidewalk is Your Canvas
Posted by Jenny M. @ 8:55 AM
I love Crayola Sidewalk Paint and have given it as a gift several times. I was worried the last time I gave it to a couple with a daughter turning four who had just bought a brand new home in a brand new tract neighborhood where everything was…well, pristine. I drove up with my gift which approximated graffiti and thought, oh crap, the HOA here probably bans sidewalk chalk. Then a week later the recipients asked where I bought it so they too could give it away as a gift. So, paint away.
Today my kids and I were decorating our sidewalk for Halloween (one daughter painting about the cutest witches EVER; one daughter painting on top of everyone else’s painting; one Mom trying to be clever with contributions like “SPOOKTACULAR!” and of course I made the double-Os look like spooky eyes.
.) Anyway, my deep thought about sidewalk paint today was, huh. I think this stuff is the equivalent of liquid chalk, which explains why it shows up so nicely when it dries and doesn’t constitute a terrible eco-disaster. Sets vary but come with little mini-rollers (good for parents’ lettering), paint brushes, paint trays, paint, and even stencils (which work only if you hold the plastic down firmly and encourage your child to stay in the lines).
Snapshot:
• Super fun for holidays, summer days, neighborhood parties
• Buy a lot of paint and dilute it lightly with water because you’ll go through a lot!
• The box says the age is 5 and up, but my four and almost two year old both enjoy it already.
• As far as washability goes, it stays on the sidewalk for a while, which I think is a bonus. Washes off people quite well.
