In honor of Thanksgiving week, I’ll be posting some of the toys for which we have the most gratitude.
Monday’s pick is Sy’s current favorite, sure to be in the top slot for years to come, just as it was in my own youth:
Our most fabulous vintage Fisher-Price Little People Sesame Street set. Rog got ours on eBay last year and we saved it for months before we surprised Sy with it. She went completely bonkers for it. It’s the main toy she chooses to put away when her friends come over, because she just cannot bear the thought of sharing it. At almost two and a half, she has come to truly love Grover and all of his friends on the Street. It’s the only song she likes to sing, the theme song to Sesame Street. I find myself whistling it every time I have a moment of solitude (why I need to fill a nice peaceful moment with my off-key whistling, I know not).
I think knowing that the characters exist outside of the play set (we all know Sesame Street is alive and well in all of our hearts) helps give Sy a starting point to create the pretend play games. She loves to put everyone in the trash truck and drive them off the roof. Well OK, maybe that never happened on any episode I’ve ever seen, but you know what I mean. And since a Dora or Diego play set might make me want to just go lie down in the middle of traffic, I am ecstatic that Rog won the auction on this magical toy.
It’s not that hard to find on eBay. As I haunt around the aisles of eBay, I see that we are missing a few pivotal characters. You can be sure I’ll be doing some last minute frenzied bidding to complete the collection. Happy bidding.
I’ve seen the sets on other sites like toyzdollz or recycledtoys, although I’ve never shopped through either of them and therefore can’t review their sales process.

That warms the cockles of my heart! (OK, I have no idea how to spell that, but you know what I mean.) We’ll get them all out when we get to my house.
