A Salvo Against Food Strikes
Before you read further, I’d just like to remind you that I am not a member of the medical profession and this is not medical advice. This is just my rambly opinion about vitamins. Always check with your doctor first before giving your baby something new!
Sy will literally go months only eating once a day, a couple of select dishes (long live macaroni and cheese with peas). It used to make me totally freak out. The doctors were suggesting I take Sy to specialists, they wanted to discuss “sensory integration issues” etc. My sister talks me off the mental parenting wall about once a day, and she reminded me that Sy is an incredibly sensitive kid, so whenever anything is bothering her, food is the first to go. Cutting a molar in my house means that Sy will only drink milk and maybe eat a few strawberries if she’s feeling saucy.
Even though I try to keep the raging worry at bay, I still want her to have some sort of nutrition. Her pediatrician recommended PolyViSol drops. Gross! They taste like metallic-strawberry drops. I think Sy is brilliant when she turns her head and yells when I get that bottle and dropper out. The ones without iron are not bad, but she’s pretty much sworn off the stuff. Sy’s pediatrician also recommends cooking in an iron skillet as the iron will sneak its way into the food. Yeah, well, that’d be great if I could get the kid to EAT what I had lovingly prepared in said iron skillet.
